Obedience training is one of the best things you can do for your dog or puppy and yourself. Obedience training is one of the most important aspects of raising a dog. In fact, a well trained dog is by far a happier dog! Training opens up a line of communication between you and your dog. Effective communication is necessary to instruct your dog about what you want them to do.

Dogs are social animals and without proper training they will behave like animals. Nearly all behavior problems are perfectly normal canine activities that occur at the wrong time or place or are directed at the wrong thing. The key to preventing or treating behavior problems is learning to teach your dog to redirect their natural behavior to outlets that are acceptable in the domestic setting. A well trained dog is more confident and can more safely be allowed a greater amount of freedom than an untrained one.

Obedience training is also an easy way to establish the social hierarchy. When your dog obeys a simple request of come, sit, stay, they are showing compliance and respect for you. Training serves to strengthen the bond between a dog and their owner. Training can enrich your relationship and make living together more enjoyable. It builds communication, understanding, and mutual respect, and effectively demonstrates to your dog that you are the leader of the pack (commonly referred to as the Alpha).

Obedience training can be used to help fulfill some of your dogs basic needs, such as exercise, the security of knowing what is expected, a feeling of accomplishment, and constructive social interaction. Training will give your dog a job to do and can be useful in redirecting some of the mental energy of an animal that was meant for work.

Training provides benefits to dogs of every age and breed and to their owners. While getting your dog to recognize and react to your verbal commands requires time, patience, and more than a few treatsthe results will be a responsible, responsive, well-adjusted dog.
